gary-portraitGary Gates brings more than 20 years of experience in directing risk management, enhancing supply chain and customer service programs for businesses in the service, manufacturing and distribution environments.  From assuring world class delivery of large consumer durables into the home, to precision manufacturing of components in hi-tech medical devices he has been involved in monitoring risk, and meeting the demands of customers, shareholders, stakeholders and suppliers in such companies as HomeDirectUSA, Avery Dennison, US Precision Glass and Elkay Manufacturing.

With a passion for understanding organizations and the risks they face, and a strong desire to help he has set strategy, established policies and procedures and designed programs that contributed to higher levels of customer service as well as the bottom line.  He developed his expertise as the Managing Director of Exception and Risk Management for HomeDirect USA – an integrated logistics service provider that uses company-owned transportation systems, third party carriers, agent networks and other resources to provide value-added delivery services to top retail, catalog and e-commerce companies.   

During his tenure at HomeDirect, Gary served in a variety of roles, including Director of Claims and Account Analysis, Director of Business Integration, and Director of Customer Service. He is recognized for streamlining and standardizing the supply chain process and building value-added tools and systems for the business and it’s customers.  Gary prides himself on his ability to understand the entire business process and be able to identify the impact of changes created by individual process improvements both up and down stream.

Gary earned his Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science from National Louis University in Wheaton, IL. He is an active member of the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) and a member of the International Institute of Business Analysis, and Association of Continuity Professionals.  Gary is also a former charter member of the International Customer Service Association where he served on the International Executive Board and as president of the local Chicago chapter.

Gary is a trained Six Sigma Green Belt through the Chicago Demming Association and is currently pursuing his Associate of Risk Management (ARM) certification and Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.

On a personal note, Gary enjoys learning from others and sharing his expertise – although this does not preclude him from cleaning out the garage, as his wife sometimes reminds him
